Common to all services and Corps. Designed in 1913 by Eoin McNeill
the founder of the Irish Volunteers.
The badge is the letters FF signifying "Fianna Fail" (Soldiers of Destiny),
surrounded by
a soldiers belt with the words "Oglaigh na h-Éireann" (Warriors of Ireland) upon an 8 pointed star,
with a sunburst emerging behind it. It has been the Defence Forces Badge ever since.
